A LUXURY HOME
FRAGRANCE BRAND
2005
The 'Wonderfully Whiffy' brand of luxury home fragrance products was conceived, designed and trademarked by Teddy McDonald in 2005.
At the time, luxury home fragrance was dominated by the likes of Jo Malone and Diptyque, both of which had a more traditional and classic aesthetic. Teddy placed emphasis on creating a contemporary luxury brand targeting a younger demographic using playful hand-written slogans, on-trend colours and an association with a rock n roll lifestyle popular at that time.
The brand was chosen by Coldplay to scent the dressing rooms of their X&Y world tour and selected as an 'official product' for the 2007 BRIT Awards where they were handed to The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Oasis, Aerosmith, The Scissor Sisters, Take That and many more.
Wonderfully Whiffy was an official product supplier to the 2006/2007 seasons of the BBC show Friday Night with Jonathan Ross providing personalised gift-boxed candles to the celebrity guests.
Sold exclusively online and in Selfridges London and Brown Thomas Ireland. Wonderfully Whiffy also received an investment offer from one of the stars of the BBC Show Dragons' Den and a potential buy-out offer from a third party however, the great economic recession of 2007-2009 caused great uncertainty for all parties and Teddy decided to archive the brand in 2010.
A few years later Teddy discovered Wiltshire-based gift distributor Junction18 also known as Shruti, whose CEO Chris Voisey had previously met Teddy to discuss the brand, was now using the Wonderfully Whiffy name on their own range of candles thus violating the legal trademark in existence. Teddy was less than impressed with Voisey's reaction and attitude however, decided it would not be an effective use of time or energy to pursue formal legal action.
Wonderfully Whiffy also designed gift-boxed candles in collaboration with Gwyneth Paltrow, Elizabeth Hurley and Heather Nova and raised money for several charities.
