McDonald donated all proceeds from the original sale to the charity Children in Crisis.
"The princesses input was very spontaneous. We were sitting on the lawn looking at the painting and I simply asked them to write their thoughts using paint markers. If you consider what they chose to write, in the spur of the moment, their comments are extremely uplifting and thoughtful of others.
It amuses me how I managed to largely dodge the officials and in doing so, it affords the work a rare quality... we see members of the royal family expressing their thoughts without any interference."
